AI Hokusai: Legacy Encoded is a virtual exhibition built around seven international artists rather than one automated style transfer. Waves, mountains, dance, sound, and other elements associated with Hokusai are separated and recombined into distinct spaces that visitors can move through. Each artist treats generative image, sound, three-dimensional, or interactive systems as material for a personal response. The result feels closer to a group exhibition of future ukiyo-e than a gallery of quick filters applied to familiar pictures.
How to try it
Open the official website and select Explore the Exhibition. A desktop or laptop offers the easiest way to navigate the large virtual space, but the organizers also support tablets and phones. A VR headset is an optional route rather than a requirement. Start with one artist’s area, look for how its motion or sound refers to Hokusai, and then visit a contrasting space instead of trying to cover the entire environment at once. No local installation is required for the browser version.

The exhibition opened online in May 2025 and remains available through its first-party site. The organizers credit the AI Hokusai team and seven resident artists, whose individual works use different combinations of generative visuals, sound, 3D design, and interaction.
