Why it’s interesting
This project uses cloud imagery and machine recognition to ask whether a computer sees nature itself or only the categories and labels people placed in its training data.
A universally familiar subject becomes a test of machine perception. The work makes classification feel less neutral by showing the human choices hidden inside a label.
How to try it
Open the Google Arts & Culture story, examine the large images and installation photographs, then continue through the artist's explanation of the method. No account is required.
