Why it’s interesting
Emergent Evolver turns machine learning into a playable creature-breeding box. You assemble a body from joints, bones, muscles, feet, and a head but never define a walking animation. More than twenty candidates attempt the course, the strongest reproduce, and their neural networks grow new neurons and connections. The interface shows the live network, muscle activity, and population fitness, so a dragging shape can gradually become a hopper, crawler, swimmer, or sprinter. The learning process is the spectacle rather than a hidden score calculation.
How to try it
Open the itch.io page, choose Run game, and press Play. Six courses cover running, jumping, obstacles, climbing, gaps, and swimming, with a separate brain saved for each course. A fresh browser has no creatures, so choose New creature, draw a body, select a course, and begin evolution. The single-HTML experience is free, needs no account, and requires no installation. If embedded browser storage is blocked, Export saves the creature as one line of text. We entered the live course-selection screen.
Requirements and sources
itch.io records Jonjoe1001 as the author and a release at 23:14 UTC on September 8, 2026, followed by an update on September 10. Movement is learned through neuroevolution at runtime rather than replaying authored walk cycles. Each environment trains independently. Donations are optional and do not gate play. The cover is the official 630 by 500 itch.io project image showing a skeletal creature against its neural connections.
