Why it’s interesting
Jev Plays Pokémon Red records a fast decision model completing the entire game. Jev chose menu answers, team changes, destinations, conversations, and every battle action, while a harness read game memory, listed legal options, handled pathfinding, and pressed buttons. This is more than a polished teaser: the public record reports 16,150 decisions, 37 hours 40 minutes to reach the Hall of Fame, 16 team wipes, and 15 Elite Four attempts.
How to try it
Open the project page to watch the highlights and inspect the final team and run statistics. The livestream has ended; the current page is a completed, viewable record, not an active run. Researchers can inspect the GPL-2.0 repository. Reproducing the experiment requires macOS or Linux, Node.js, an API key, and a personally and legally obtained US or EU game ROM, but ordinary viewers need none of that.
Requirements and sources
Creator Christian Mathiesen explains that the project neither includes nor links to a ROM. The harness reads memory and presses buttons without writing game memory, but it provides story milestones, legal choices, pathfinding, and loop protection, so this should not be described as unaided visual play. The stream ran from September 25 to 26, 2026. The cover remotely references the 1280×720 completion frame published for the official highlight video. It contains game character IP, is used only to identify and explain the experiment, is not rehosted, and claims neither redistribution permission nor affiliation with Nintendo, Game Freak, or The Pokémon Company.
