Why it’s interesting
Dreaming with Flamingos is an interactive work by artist Yinka Ilori with Google Arts & Culture Lab. You enter as a young flamingo in a park that has lost its song and colour. Collect words from flag posts, approach elder flamingos and solve their riddles to recover stories and music. Each solution reveals a dynamic soundtrack generated with Google DeepMind’s Lyria and inspired by West African instruments, while level rewards draw on Nigerian parables.
Google’s official article describes more than 400 sound combinations and 38 collectible images, combining a WebGL world and Ilori’s visual language with generative music and image tools. We launched the official experiment without signing in, waited for its assets to reach 100%, and confirmed its start flow, movement and flight instructions, word collection, riddles, mood and instrument choices, plus the final image download and sharing controls.
How to try it
Launch the experiment with sound on. Move with arrows or WASD and hold space to jump or fly. Collect four words around the pond, then approach an elder flamingo and answer the riddle. After restoring the park, trees, floor tiles, clouds and collected words become musical playthings.
Requirements and sources
The work is free and needs no account in a modern desktop browser, though its first load is substantial. Its music and images are experimental synthetic expressions, not factual output. The official page dates the work to January 26, 2025 and credits the artist and residents. The cover comes from Google’s official article and is referenced remotely.
